The Loneliest Road in America

In the 1950s, one of the many feats associated with The Missouri River was to drive across The United States from east to west and arrive at The Pacific Ocean. The journey would take approximately two to three months without any stops for rest or repairs. The journey ended abruptly when a man named Leonard Coatsworth made his way through The Black Rock Desert (Nevada) in October 1911 without stopping for gas or oil. He intended to make it through The Washoe Pass on the border between California and Nevada but he never made it that far as his car died right outside Gerlach, NV which is about 100 miles from Reno, NV. The car was repaired with the help of The Gerlach Hotel and casino owner, Thomas Foley, who gave him a gas can and he made it to Reno. The journey took Coatsworth 56 days. The Loneliest Road in America Nevada Trail is officially defined as any road that has no services for at least 100 miles (161 km).

A Little Bit About Las Vegas

Nevada Trails

Las Vegas, Nevada is one of the most popular vacation destinations in America. A Las Vegas vacation will leave you with amazing memories and stories to share with friends for years to come – here are a few things you’ll want to know before planning your trip:

A Las Vegas Strip hotel is always the first choice for visitors staying on The Las Vegas Strip – the most famous stretch of road in all of Sin City. A typical stay at a Las Vegas Strip hotel includes a buffet breakfast at one of many restaurants, swimming pools, and casino gambling. Some hotels offer live entertainment as well! Many other hotels are located off-Strip; these resorts often include conference facilities for business travelers or family fun amenity packages such as waterslides for kids.

While guests can enjoy a variety of Las Vegas activities, The Las Vegas Strip is famous for its casinos and shows – if the thought of winning big in front of live audiences excites you, consider taking a seat at the tables or slots to try your luck! A show such as Cirque du Soleil® will have you on the edge of your seat regardless if you’ve seen one before; there’s always something new in Las Vegas!

Hoover Dam

In the area around Hoover Dam are a number of trails, ranging from short nature walks to multi-day hikes with backcountry camping options.  Hoover Dam is a great base from which to explore Hoover Dam National Recreation Area, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and the Hoover Wilderness. The Hoover Dam Museum opens daily at 9:30 am. In addition, rotating exhibits highlight historic aspects of Hoover Dam construction efforts, as well as some of the Native American cultures along the Colorado River corridor before and after it was flooded by Hoover Reservoir in 1935. The museum also hosts special seasonal exhibits on various themes in connection with Hoover Dam and its environs.  The Hoover Dam Spillway is a popular Hoover Dam nevada trails that offers great views of Hoover Dam. Since its one way, you will need to park at the Visitor Center and walk through the dam (visitors center) and down the steps to reach the overlook platform where Hoover Dam is in full view. You can also find restrooms near this overlook.
